Essay on anarchism to be published in new book

The Atlas Society's Director of Programs William Thomas has contributed an important essay entitled "Objectivism against Anarchy" to a new compilation book: Anarchism/Minarchism: Is a Government Part of a Free Country?

The new book, forthcoming from Ashgate Publishing Company, is edited by philosophers Roderick Long, of Auburn University and Tibor Machan, of Chapman University, both of whom have published work on Ayn Rand and her thought.

Other contributors to the volume include John Hasnas, associate professor of business at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University; Lester Hunt, professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin; Jan Narveson, a well-known anarcho-capitalist philosopher who teaches at the University of Waterloo; and Aeon Skoble, associate professor of philosophy at Bridgewater State College in Massachussetts.

Thomas' essay discusses arguments against anarchism made by notable Objectivists such as Ayn Rand and David Kelley. Thomas argues that once one grasps fully why there cannot be a "marketplace" for force, one can see that at root, a properly constituted government is not more coercive than an anarchy.
