Call for Papers for Advanced Seminar 2007

Proposal submission deadline: November 20, 2006.

Initial draft deadline: January 15, 2007.

The Objectivist Center invites scholars of philosophy and allied fields to submit papers for presentation at the Advanced Seminar sessions at our 2007 Summer Seminar conference.

The 18th annual Summer Seminar will take place on a college campus on the East Coast or perhaps in the Midwest in the second week of July. The exact location and date of the seminar will be posted here when they become available, but no later than Dec. 1.

Advanced Seminar sessions focus on new writings on Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism. The purpose of the seminar is to encourage the development of a high-quality scholarly literature on philosophical topics that is written from an Objectivist perspective. It also has the purpose of encouraging the development of community of scholars working in and around these ideas. Typical session participants include professors, graduate students, independent scholars, and advanced undergraduates

We are interested in receiving proposals that advance our understanding of Objectivism as a philosophical body of ideas. Papers may seek to clarify specific principles of Objectivism, examine the evidence for and derivation of such principles, develop further implications of existing principles, propose and defend new principles or interpretations, or discuss methodological issues. Papers may also relate Objectivist ideas to other philosophical theories, historical or contemporary.

To propose a paper, submit by November 20, 2006:

--      A brief self-description for inclusion in the Summer Seminar program. (50-80 words)

--      Your academic status and degrees, if not mentioned in the self-description.

--      Your contact information

--      A brief description of the paper with a short descriptive bio (100 words total) for the Summer Seminar program.

--     The publication status of the paper (e.g. incomplete, unpublished, accepted for publication, published). The Advanced Seminar seeks primarily unpublished papers.

--      Your goal for the paper (e.g. venues of possible publication or presentation, or plans for further development).

Plan also to submit by January 15, 2007:

--       A draft of the paper to be presented. Papers should be 5,000-10,000 words in length. This may be an initial draft.

If your paper is accepted, a final drafts will be due May 15, 2007.
